APYC History - Volume 13

In 1995 Naomi McCloskey became the first woman commodore of All Ports Yacht Club. There were 42 members and guests in attendance at her installation dinner. Her husband, Past Commodore Larry McCloskey, swore in the new officers. Tom Stieber thanked everyone for their help in the past year and presented flags to the new bridge. Naomi then presented Tom with past commodore bars and stripes, and flag. Past Commodore Stieber was to be inducted into Blue Gavel at the July meeting.

Commodore Naomi McCloskey continued with the minutes, treasurer's report, and fleet captain's calendar. Some of the items of interest included: All Ports hosting a clambake with South Shore; a fundraiser raffle; $200 to Glen Fish for a GCBA hospitality room; and notification that we were accepted into AYC. We would have a 3 year probation period for AYC, and for ILYA. Active participation was encouraged.

The club continued to grow and flourish under our first woman commodore. General membership meetings were held in May, July, and September. The club continued with the annual Christie Lane outing, and the July Venetian Regatta. There were also other activities such as a DJ dance, dinner at Sandusky Yacht Club, and trips to Put-in-Bay and Leamington. Our first woman commodore, Naomi McCloskey had a successful year.

Diane Stieber
